In 1976, Raymar’s Center at 118 West Main Street in Somerville was purchased by Randy Redelico. It was re-named Redelico’s Paint and Decorating Center. Sidney Raymar taught Redelico everything he knew about the business and then Redelico, with his bigger-than-life personality and his love for people made it his own.
His philosophy has always been to sell the best products and to provide the best customer service that he can. He’s even more sure of that philosophy now, when he has known many of his customers for more than 20 years.
While Redelico is the heart of his store, he couldn’t do it all alone. He’ll be the first to tell you that he’s had the best employees in the world. Many of them are family and there have been many young people working their way through college. Most stay for years even if it’s only part-time or Saturdays. Presently, he employs Jennifer, Jennie, Eva, Debbie, Guy, Sharon, Matt and Randy. The weekly work schedule varies to accommodate children, school, family functions, and other jobs. Family always comes before work, but the store keeps humming, not in spite of but because of this. When Redelico had an emergency appendectomy last summer his staff pulled together and ran the store for several weeks without him.
Redelico has had a lot of fun with his advertising over the years. He’s even gone as far as having live chickens in the store promoting his “get a chicken with every gallon” theme.
His wife and daughter have been pictured in many of his ads over the years and for the new season, Redelico himself will get into the act at the insistence of his family.
Mainly though, Redelico is a man who wants to make the most of each day. He goes about doing that with a wonderful attitude and always a big smile. He’s part ringmaster, part little boy and he’ll always believe in having goals and dreams.
